7 More Examples The following paragraph contains fragments. Identify which types of fragments they are. Having enjoyed a nice Spring Break. I feel recharged. I am ready to do my school work. Such as finishing my essays and conducting research for my history class. When the assignments are due. I will be able to turn in all my work on time. And get a good grade.

8 How to Correct Fragments I. Use a comma to connect the fragment to the independent clause: Example 1: Because there was a mosquito in the room. I could not fall asleep. Because there was a mosquito in the room, I could not fall asleep.

9 Example 2 Sitting quietly on the couch. The dog didn’t look as if he’d eaten my sandwich. Example 3 Almost everyone loves ice cream. Especially vanilla. Almost everyone loves ice cream, especially vanilla. Sitting quietly on the couch, the dog didn’t look as if he’d eaten my sandwich.

10 Example 1 The day-long rain was good for the garden. But flooded the basement. II. Fill in the missing part and turn the fragment into a complete sentence Example 2 A mouse’s face popped out of a hole near the sink. Then disappeared quickly. The day-long rain was good for the garden, but it flooded the basement. A mouse’s face popped out of a hole near the sink. Then it disappeared quickly.
