REDI Index: Penn State Office of Physical Plant A new software program that measures waste program efficiencies by type, size, and locale Summer 2010

REDI Index: Penn State Office of Physical Plant “If you can’t explain it simply – you don’t understand it well enough.” ~ Albert Einstein ??? Zero Waste ???

REDI Index: Penn State Office of Physical Plant OBJECTIVES  Understand the ReDi Index as it applies to the concept of zero waste  Appreciate the ReDi Index ease of application  Consider using the ReDi Index to measure your waste program  Support the use of the ReDi Index as the standard for zero waste management

REDI Index: Penn State Office of Physical Plant Response Diversion % of processes in place to divert commodities from the landfill % actually diverted from the waste stream

REDI Index: Penn State Office of Physical Plant Deliverables: Requires waste managers to critically review his/her waste stream components Establishes an easily measured & understood baseline Sorts best – worst by type & size Provides waste manager contact information May be applied as a standard for waste programs anywhere in the world
