5 5 BACM-2010 Students Should follow a 4-year degree curriculum structure of 120 – 144 credits. For the 7 programmes nominated for early introduction of the 4-year degree curriculum as from 2010/11, a “4-minus-1” curriculum model will enable students to normally complete the degree in 3 years’ time. It is because students are given an “Advanced Standing I” status for exempting 30 credits from the full loading requirement of 120 – 144 credits. They are required to do 90 – 114 credits only.

Students may choose to take free elective courses based on their interests or goals. 12 12 I don’t have HKALE Use of English score …… –you are required to sit for a Placement Test by the English Language Centre (ELC) in order to determine your English Language attainment requirement. How do I know if I am required to take EAP? –Check your status via “ELC status” in AIMS. –Check this piece of information to ensure your register the right course for fulfilling the University English requirement. –Contact ELC direct for further enquiries/concerns.

13 13 GE Chinese Civilization Requirement (3 CUs) Take GE1501 Chinese Civilization – History and Philosophy (3 CUs) GE1501 will be offered in Sem B, 2010/11 Not required to take CCIV courses anymore in the 4- year degree curriculum

18 18 School Requirements (18 CUs) Foundation Year 2009 students who proceed to BACM 2010 cohort have completed the following School Required courses (9 CUs): –SM1008 Art of the Moving Image –SM1012B Writing & Creativity (Chinese) –SM1205 Interactivity They should take 9 CUs’ other SCM courses from the BACM 2010 programme curriculum

20 20 Major Requirements 3 Streams: 1.Animation Arts & Digital Imaging (AADI) –51 CUs (27 CUs stream cores + 24 CUs stream electives) 2.Cinematic Arts (CA) –54 CUs (all stream cores) 3.Critical Intermedia Art (CIA) –51 CUs (all stream cores)

22 22 Major Requirements How can I learn more about the streams? –Read the Intended Learning Outcomes of Major (MILOs) given in the Programme Curriculum –Talk with your teachers/Stream Leaders or fellow senior students –Stream selection talk will be organized for Year 1 students in Semester B Year 1 students will be allocated to a Stream by the end of 2010/11.

25 25 Optional – Minor, Free Electives You can take up to a maximum of 114 CUs in your BACM study. 114 - 21 (GE) - 18 (Sch Req’d) - 54 (Major CA) __________________ 21 114 - 21 (GE) - 18 (Sch Req’d) - 51 (Major AADI/CIA) __________________ 24 spare credit loading for taking a Minor and/or some free elective courses

26 26 Optional – Minor, Free Electives Is it OK if I do not do Minor nor take any free elective courses? YES. Provided that you complete the graduation requirements of the 90 CUs for graduation and the requirements in GE, School Cores and Major Required Courses. Can I do double Minors? NO. Not enough credit loading for double Minors (114-21-18- 51=24). With 24 credits’ spare loading at most, you cannot do double Minors which will need at least 30 credits (15x2), not to mention some students will have to spend additional 6 credits for EAP and/or 3 credits for CA.
