APPLICATION PROCESS When, How and Where? September 28 th is the priority deadline for Fall Program Completers Download a Credential Application from the Office of Student Services website: http://coe.sdsu.edu/ceac/cred_process.phphttp://coe.sdsu.edu/ceac/cred_process.php (Select the application for “Multiple and Single Subject Preliminary & Clear Credentials”) Drop off or mail your application to the Office of Student Services (EBA-259) Please do not fax your application – we need an original signature on the application SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011

Required documents to be submitted w/the application Credential Request Form Receipt of credential fee payment Copy of your WebPortal transcript Transcripts from institutions other than SDSU (if you have not previously submitted these to your department) RICA (for Multiple Subject applicants only) CPR (Infant, Child & Adult – must be valid through the recommendation date) CSU Exit Survey (www.csuexitsurvey.org) Please complete survey and submit a copy of the confirmation pagewww.csuexitsurvey.org SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011

Our credential review process Review, verify and determine your eligibility Our office (OSS) will notify you via email regarding status of your application Normal processing time depends upon volume of applications received – it can take up to 6-8 weeks for the initial review Recommendation will be made in January 2012 SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011

Our credential review process All notifications from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) are done via email Final credential document will be issued online and will be posted directly at CTC website https://teachercred.ctc.ca.gov/teachers/PersonalSearchP roxy Students who apply by the priority deadline (9/28) will be recommended by 02/01/12 or prior SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011

Supplementary & Subject Matter Authorizations SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011 SUPPLEMENTARYSUBJECT MATTER 20 SEMESTER UNITS – of non- remedial course work - Grade C or better 32 SEMESTER UNITS – of non remedial course work – Grade C or better A degree in a major directly related to the subject

Supplementary & Subject Matter Authorizations SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011 SUPPLEMENTARYSUBJECT MATTER TYPE 1: INTRODUCTORY – May be added to both Multiple (MS) & Single Subject (SS) Credential MS Credential – authorized to teach departmentalized classes related to the supplementary in grades 9 and below SS Credential – authorized to teach subject matter content typically included in curriculum guidelines and textbooks for grades 9 and below TYPE 1: INTRODUCTORY – May be added to both Multiple Subject (MS) and Single Subject (SS) Credentials. Authorized to teach the subject matter content typically included in curriculum guidelines and textbooks approved for study in grades 9 and below TYPE 2: SPECIFIC – May be added to SS credential only – Authorized to teach the specific subject in grades preschool, kindergarten – 12 and classes organized primarily for adults TYPE 2: SPECIFIC – May be added to both MS and SS credentials. Authorized to teach the specific subject in grades preschool, kindergarten – 12, and classes organized primarily for adults

APLE ASSUMPTION PROGRAM of LOANS for EDUCATION (APLE) Is a state-funded competitive teacher incentive program administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) The program is designed to encourage outstanding students to become teachers and serve in critical teacher shortage areas in CA public K-12 schools Under APLE, CSAC may assume $11,000 - $19,000 in outstanding college loans SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011

Have received student loans (no parent loans) through their college Be enrolled in an undergraduate or credential program Must apply prior to completing the coursework to obtain an initial teaching credential Be enrolled half-time (6 units) Maintain satisfactory academic progress (2.5 GPA) Participants must provide four consecutive years of full- time, or part-time equivalent, teaching service in the area agreed upon at an eligible CA K-12 school $2,000 after the first year $3,000 after the second year $3,000 after the third year $3,000 after the fourth year APLE SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011

APLE CSAC will pay a bonus amount of $1,000 for each year of teaching service provided in math, science, or special education in a low-performing school (lowest 60% of API) CSAC will pay a bonus amount of $1,000 for each year of teaching service provided in math, science, or special education in a low-performing school (lowest 20% of the API) for a maximum of $19,000 SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011

Clearing your Credential Mandatory that within first 5 years of teaching you obtain a “Clear Credential” Additional coursework is required Must be employed to complete the Clear Credential Program Must “clear” with your school district if they offer a program Can enroll at SDSU if your employer does not offer a BTSA or Induction Program SDSU College of Education Office of Student Services 2011
