2. PALM-3000 2 What are we building again? Phase 0 Reconfigure current AO system for 2 new back-end instruments: SWIFT and project 1640. Phase 1 Develop and deploy an “extreme” NGS-AO system, with 1-2 years lead over competitive projects (GPI, Sphere). Phase 2 Improved the LGS performance with an infrared tip/tilt sensor and visible truth wavefront sensor.

3. PALM-3000 3 Recent Progress Recent Milestones Requirements review on 12 Nov. 2007. AO system offline for maintenance starting 29 Nov. 2007. RTC procurement complete 14 Feb. 2008 Current Activities Relayout of AO optical bench for P1640 and SWIFT (Roberts, Burruss, Bui) –On track for commissioning with PHARO on April 9. High-order Wavefront Sensor design (Baranec) –Design in progress. Lab prototyping underway. Real-time wavefront reconstructor computer design (Truong, Guiwits) –Procurement complete. Hardware integration underway. Software architecture definition (Truong, Angione, Burruss, Cromer, Guiwits) –In progress. Electronics design (Guiwits, Croner, Cromer) –In progress. Instrument commissioning (Bouchez, Roberts, Burruss) –Planning. Interfacing with instrument teams.
