1 DSI Division of Integrated Systems Design Research Institute for Applied Microelectronics (IUMA) IUMA Mission The Research Institute for Applied Microelectronics (IUMA) started its activities in the late 1980s by co-ordinating the synergies of a qualified group of scientists and experts from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) in the fields of microelectronics, communications and computer science. Since its conception, IUMA has witnessed changes in its administrative and legal status due to its excellence in research and technology transfer to industries, being partly granted at present by the Spanish Government, apart from the incomes obtained from private and public industries as well as from competitive scientific programs. DSI Highlights: To promote, organize and co-ordinate applied research in the field of microelectronics science and technology. To facilitate transferring the results of this research to industry. To conduct its own research programmes promoting collaborative alliances with public and private entities in Spain and abroad. To educate skilled engineers with a broad knowledge in state-of-the-art electronic equipment, CAD tools, telecommunications, VLSI technologies & methodologies. IUMA Goals The goals of the Research Institute for Applied Microelectronics are to create an environment for interdisciplinary research with special emphasis in the areas of microelectronics, telecommunications and computer science; to implement successful ideas into marketable products for industries; to disseminate its research among the scientific community; and to promote the studies of microelectronics within the academia in both, undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. IUMA Personnel and Structure The Research Institute for Applied Microelectronics is composed by 35 PhD, 30 MSc, 3 technicians, and more than 25 research fellows. This personnel is organized in five differentiated divisions which perform their own Research & Development activities: Integrated Systems Design (DSI) Microelectronics Technology (TME) Industrial Systems (SI) Communications (COM) Computer Science Technology (TI) More information about IUMA at www.iuma.ulpgc.es To contact with DSI, email dsi@iuma.ulpgc.es DSI is strongly linked with national and international industries More than 15 years of experience in research and development of projects in the field of microelectronics applications Around 200 papers in outstanding intl. journals and conferences Around 10 industrial alliances with intl. companies in USA, Europe and Australia More than 15 participations in national and international scientific programmes Four main areas of expertise:  Design optimization CAD tools  Integrated Systems for Multimedia Processing  Functional Verification Environment Development  Integrated Systems for Broadband Communications

This fact has permitted DSI to become experienced in industry requirements, procedures and methodologies, as well as in being strict with project schedules and times to market. Research Projects The group has participated in more than five competitive technology programmes funded by the European Union and more than ten funded by the Spanish and Canary Government. The experience gained in leading, not only universities, but also companies within these projects, ensures our ability to act as a responsible partner. Integrated Systems for Broadband Communications  Intelligent switch fabric Backplane designs  QoS switching SONET/SDH  Packet classification NoC … Integrated Systems for Multimedia Processing  JPEG2000 Motion estimation  MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Turbo codes  H.263, H.264, G-726, G-729 FFT, DCT, DWT … The Division of Integrated Systems Designs (DSI) is composed of experienced engineers and physicists who have been developing commercial products and doing outstanding private and public research in the field of microelectronics for the last 15 years. The experience gained in designing marketable high performance products implemented in diverse technologies such as Si, GaAs and SiGe, as well as the development of verification environments and CAD tools, is our best guarantee for being considered your technological partner for success. Experience, confidence, know-how, human capital and state-of-the-art resources are our best values to serve your company and act as an innovative driving force in your business. Design optimization CAD tools  Design Space Exploration Low power design  Area-Delay tradeoff Timing optimization  Power-Delay tradeoff Physical design … Verification and Test  Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) Path delay Fault  RTL SAT Path coverage  Time-frame expansion SAT ATPG …
