29 WHOI, 20-Dec-2006 Enhanced Ekman Transport Relationship between Ekman velocity and stratification (Niiler and Krauss, 1977; Ralph and Niiler, 1999) Therefore, in shallow areas (not fully developed Ekman layer) the total Ekman transport is constraint to a shallower layer, resulting in increased Ekman velocities.
