1 Fuel Cell Modeling Team Members: Albert Wong Faculty Advisor: Dr. Blekhman Department of Computer Science and Technology College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology California State University, Los Angeles Background The objective of this project is to convert a worksheet written for Mathcad into a Matlab GUI for easier modification and analysis. The calculations are for modeling the theoretical output and efficiency of the fuel used in a fuel cell. Changes in the amount of each element and other factors such as the temperature play an important role in the efficiency of this fuel cell. By utilizing Matlab’s gui generation we hope to produce an easy to use interface which can help optimize the fuel based on all of the changing values. Objectives Generate interface which would allow the user to easily manipulate values using the existing calculations and worksheet from Mathcad for use in Matlab. Deliverables Currently a work in progress. Basic elements and some of the calculations have been implemented but will need more work. A lot of the difficulty was in trying to understand both Mathcad and Matlab, both of which was new to me. Results Currently a work in progress. GUI and calculations are in progress and testing. Conclusions Hopefully this will provide an easier way of calculating and finding more efficient fuels for use in this fuel cell. MCFC Image from FCE.com Current graphs generated by Mathcad will soon become a part of the GUI Basic proof of concept and basic GUI written in Matlab, it will have graphs and charts soon but for now the work is in the calculations which occur in the background.
