2 Halloween is eve of All saints’ day(11/1). Originally, it was a Celtic religious event, which was for the dead and fire. They thought that the dead would wake from death on All saints’ day. So this is quite similar to Obon in Japan. Because those who came to life was thought to be evil ones, people offer some food so that they would not give any harm. And later, it has been taken into Christianity. It is not a official holiday in U.S.A, but about 50% of people in America celebrate this day! And because of Halloween, in U.S.A, autumn is the season for ghost story.

3 FORMER and NOW FORMER People walk around in a village asking for “soul cakes”. raisin breads. which was called “soul cakes”. It was said that the more the breads were given, the more prayer would be given to people who died before. They disguise themselves as many scary creatures. For example, witches, mummys, werewolves, skeletons and pumpkins.

He tricked on a demon one day. Eventually, Jack is died and went to heaven. But, he couldn’t enter there for the wrong. Unwillingly, he went to hell but he was turned away because he was the person who deceived the demon. He is in trouble, a demon came to him and gave a slight fire. He had only the fire. He put the fire into a turnip so that it doesn’t go out. And he continues wandering around in the cold dark. From this tale, the tradition that put fire into a pumpkin was made.

5 ☆ How to make ☆ 1. prepare pumpkin 2Hallow a pumpkin,and cut the pumpkin’s stem horizontally and scoop out the inside 3.Draw design (eyes and mouth) 4.preserve. Beware that the pumpkin shrivel by dryness (also the top) 5.Burn candle inside the pumpkin…. The name originate a man who called 『 stingy jack 』. Tradition says that hedeceived a devil.
