3 Background Aging in Europe has become a social and economic challenge and is today part of the European Horizon 2020 Program. The Wider Program seeks to offer the basis for planning local economic development strategies in order to: Help small and medium enterprises Encourage the formation of new companies and emerging businesses Provide companies with tools to draw closer to this new market segment and succeed Design and develop new products aimed at increasing healthy active life-style Integrate a multi-sectorial and multidisciplinary holistic approach Find mechanisms to allow user-centred development Include environmental care and energy efficiency in all aspects.
