Destination Basingstoke, who are they? “Destination Basingstoke is an independent, not-for-profit company working with businesses and other partners to promote Basingstoke and the surrounding area for its quality of life and quality of business.” – Destination Basingstoke’s Official Website. From our research, we have found Destination Basingstoke to be a town based organization that uses the skills and enthusiasm of experienced professionals to promote the town of Basingstoke across a vast array of different areas that will greatly appeal to any business owner, however large their company may or may not be, as well a showing off its more publicly appealing features. Destination Basingstoke goes above and beyond in promoting the very best that this extremely diverse town has to offer.

Target audience for promotional video The promotional video we plan on creating for Destination Basingstoke has been crafted around the ideas or both our production team specialists, and those of the client. Therefore the overall aim of the video is rather broad, as it isn’t specifically aimed at business owners or any particular age range, but instead it aims to promote the town of Basingstoke in a way that appeals to all, focusing mainly on the public and increasing tourism. We came to this conclusion because we noticed the exceptionally wide range of faculties open to the public there are, therefore a video promoting them would be beneficial to those who are unaware of their existence. It’ll also help attract tourism by promoting businesses that offer exciting experiences, like Basingstoke’s newly developed indoor skydiving skiing complex. The extra influx of tourism will help these businesses to emerge and survive, allowing them to become a permanent fixture within the society.

Project ideas Due to the nature of this project, we are only limited by our own sense of creativity, which is why we have come up with all sorts of ideas for shooting each and every aspect of the town that we feel would would be applicable for such a project. We had to make sure that we wouldn’t leave any exciting place/business out, which is why we spent a considerable amount of time searching for places to film, as well as contacting various businesses in order to obtain special permission to film on their property. We approached many businesses, including: The Bowlplex, Ski-plex, Planet ice, Go-Karting and the Basingstoke Golf centre, as well as Local event managers. Our most prominent idea is to create a music based montage of clips showing off the various exciting location within Basingstoke, this way we can show a large amount of information in a short amount of time to keep it entertaining.

Location Ideas With the abundance of locations to film within Basingstoke, and with the main idea of crafting the footage being a montage, we aim to show off a few quick clips from inside a large amount of exciting locations. The locations we are considering filming are as follows: Basingstoke Town Centre Basingstoke Leisure Park Basingstoke War Memorial (Before and during Basingstoke live festival) Beggerwood Basingstoke Industrial Complex Various Shopping complexes (Chinham, Brighton hill, ect.)

In-depth/Shot specific ideas We’ve been discussing potential ideas for specific shots/sequences, for example we have been planning to take a shot twice in the same place, once before and one during the Basingstoke live festival – this will show off the diversity of the location(s).

Production Crew The Production crew will be made up of three college students aged between 16 – 17, all of which are members of the Creative Media course at Queen Mary’s College. All three students are very capable and share no lack of enthusiasm in their work, as they have proven in the past academic year. They have specific roles within the production crew to streamline the project and avoid confusion, those roles are as follows: Alex Bulter – Project manager/Director Matt Errington – Cinematographer, Junior director Harrison Buckberry – Location Scout, Camera assistant, Sound recordist.

Timescale The project will be created in stages, first being the planning stage, this will take around 1 – 2 weeks, depending on the response we receive from the businesses we choose to contact. The pre-production work (Testimonial(s), Location forms, Risk assessments, ect.) will only take 1-2 days, but the idea collecting and location research will take anywhere between 4 – 6 days (7 max). The second stage of the production is filming, which depending on the weather, could take anywhere between 1 – 2 weeks. Finally we come down to editing, which will made individually by each production team member and will take around 2 -3 days, as all team members have a conceivable amount of experience with this aspect on film-making. If this timescale followed correctly and without any mishaps, then an early draft may be sent to the client before the project is due to finish.
