© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 2 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call IBM Smarter Networks Executive Summary  Our solution costs 30% less than legacy copper based switched networks  Our solution includes LAN, Wi-Fi, and Cellular connectivity  Our solution requires far less space than legacy networks giving you back valuable office space  Our solution is Green, reducing operational costs and improving your LEED status  Our solution is simpler to operate and manage than legacy networks  Our solution is based on carrier grade technology which is more reliable than legacy switched networks

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 3 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call The IBM Smarter Network provides substantial TCO advantages over legacy copper based network architectures.  IBM performed a TCO analysis for a 12 story mixed use building which included office, retail, and hotel space  A converged fiber optic PON and DAS infrastructure were compared to a legacy copper based switched network with a separate DAS  The year 1 CapEx savings achieved with the IBM Smarter Network were close to $1,000,000.00

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 4 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call Legacy networks are no longer an efficient or cost effective operating model.  Legacy enterprise network designs rely on multiple separate networks to deliver services to your employees  Legacy networks rely heavily on copper and coax cabling, requiring frequent rip and replace upgrades as technologies change  Legacy networks take up substantial space for wiring closets due to the distance limitations of copper cabling  Legacy networks also require substantial power and cooling in the wiring closets for stacks of network electronics

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 5 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call IBM has developed the IBM Smarter Network which costs a third less than a legacy copper/coax based network architecture.  The IBM Smarter Network for Enterprise –uses a single fiber-based network for all services (PON, Cellular, Wi-Fi) –uses far less cabling saving you install time, materials cost, and space –uses far fewer wiring closets than a legacy copper/coax based design –requires far less power and cooling than legacy switched network designs A single, converged fiber network for one third less than legacy networks

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 6 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call The IBM Smarter Network uses Passive Optical LAN technology which costs one third less than a legacy switched network architecture.  Passive Optical LAN provides LAN access throughout your building for wired LAN access and Wi-Fi access points  Passive Optical LAN utilizes a fiber based cabling plant instead of copper saving you money and space –less cabling, less cable trays, lower material and installation costs –far fewer wiring closets than switched network designs  Passive Optical LAN does not require special power and cooling in your wiring closets like legacy switched networks do Traditional LAN Architecture vs. Passive Optical LAN Architecture

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 7 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call Passive Optical LAN technology requires far less equipment space than legacy switched technology.  Legacy switched networks require dedicated wiring closets with proper power and environmental controls  The IBM Smarter Network for Enterprise requires far less space, power, and cooling saving you money and giving you back valuable space in your building  The IBM Smarter Network for Enterprise is a much simpler design and deployment which is far easier to manage than a legacy switched network

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 8 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call Passive Optical LAN technology also requires dramatically less cabling saving you money on material and installation costs.  Legacy copper based network architectures require far more cabling due to the distance limitations of copper cabling  In an IBM Smarter Network for Enterprise the cabling is primarily fiber based which requires far less cabling and space than legacy switched based designs which rely heavily on copper cabling This 36” cable tray was installed for a legacy copper design. Only 10” of the tray was used after the client decided to switch to the IBM Smarter Network for Enterprise instead of the originally planned legacy copper based design. 10” actual space used for the IBM Solution 36” cable tray space that was planned for a legacy copper network

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 9 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call The IBM Smarter Network can be deployed in different configurations depending on your office layout. This option eliminates a traditional IDF.  The core PON and DAS equipment is located in the MDF  No IDF’s are required  Remote power and splitters, are located in ceiling and ONT’s are placed in the work area

This option utilizes a traditional IDF.  The core PON and DAS equipment is located in the MDF  A traditional IDF is used to locate the passive splitters and remote power distribution system  Optical Network Transceivers (ONT’s) are located in the ceiling.

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 11 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call Multiple form factors are available for the Optical Network Transceivers where end users or devices plug into the Local Area Network.  In-wall mount  Cubicle and Desk Mount  Rack mount 4 Port Gigabit Desk Mount 2 Port Gigabit Wall Mount8 Port Gigabit Desk Mount 24 Port Gigabit Rack Mount

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 12 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call The IBM Smarter Network includes a fiber optic Distributed Antenna System for 5 bar in building cellular coverage.  An internal DAS allows you to provide 5 bar cellular coverage inside your building  The IBM Smarter Network for Enterprise includes a fiber based DAS which allows for easy upgrades as required –When a wireless carrier introduces a new frequency, simply swap out a card in the remote access units  Advanced features such as capacity steering allow you to shift cellular capacity to different areas of your building as employees move around…Smarter!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JuUS7_-s2Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JuUS7_-s2Y DAS Head End Remote Access Unit - Cell 4 band - MIMO 2 band - Ethernet and Wi-Fi

© 2012 International Business Machines Corporation 13 North America IOT 1Q All Manager and Executive Call The IBM Smarter Network provides powerful Wi-Fi coverage ensuring a world class employee experience.  The IBM Smarter Network for Enterprise provides pervasive Wi-Fi coverage throughout all parts of your building  802.11AC technology provides high capacity and throughput  Multiple mounting options supported  Multiple WiFi manufacturers supported
