3 Types of Financial Aid Grants Grants : Money that does not have to be repaid Pell Grant Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Federal Texas Grant* Texas Educational Opportunity Grant Texas Public Education Grant State Note: Beginning with the 2014-2015 award year, State regulations mandate that Texas Grant will only be awarded to renewal students. A renewal students is one who has been awarded this this grant prior to Fall 2014.

5 Loans Loans : Money that must be repaid Types of Financial Aid For undergraduate and graduate students; must be repaid to school that offered loan Federal Perkins Loan Government pays for interest accrued Direct Subsidized Student pays for all interest accrued Direct Unsubsidized For parents of undergraduate students Direct PLUS Credit-based loans College Access Loan/Sally Mae

7 Third Party & State Exemptions Types of Financial Aid GI Bill/Hazlewood Veteran’s Educational Benefits Type of aid available to students with disabilities Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Program in conjunction with Workforce Solutions Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Local program to improve workforce in the Rio Grande Valley Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement (VIDA) Students that qualify for an exemption may be eligible to attend any public university in Texas without paying tuition (or fees) Exemptions
