12 Proposed Giving to Other Worthy Causes Brooke Army Medical Center Warrior and Family Support Center Estab, 2003; new facility, 2008 Visitor Count: over 960,000 Functions As part of the rehab effort for both warriors and their families the center provides: –Info and Referral services to Military and Civil organizations, incl trips to local activities –Educational Classes –Computer Lab and Business Center GO LIKE 60!

13 Proposed Giving to Other Worthy Causes Functions (cont) –Kitchen and Dining Area for family prepared or volunteer prepared meals –Big screen TV’s and entertainment room –Outdoor patio and garden –Free long distance calls –Free DVD check-out –Place where wounded warriors can meet family and friends, as well as meet other warriors and their families GO LIKE 60!

14 Proposed Giving to Other Worthy Causes Funding Issues –San Antonio NPG (Returning Heroes Home) raised the $5.8 mill to build the 12,500 sq ft bldg and grounds which opened in Dec 2008; donated it to the Army –Furniture, kitchen appliances and computers in the learning center all obtained through donations –NPG still working on $2.1 mill (have about half) to complete adjoining park and walkways –Army Support Activity (ASA) pays for basic staff (director, asst director); most of the rest of the staff are volunteers GO LIKE 60!

15 Proposed Giving to Other Worthy Causes Funding Issues (Cont) –Post covers bldg operation and maintenance costs – bare bones –Programs have some basic ASA funding, but donations cover most of the need –Small donations used to provide: gift cards, disposable cameras, baked goods, candy, snacks, pens, pencils, music, DVD’s, diapers, formula, personal hygiene products for warriors and family Discussion GO LIKE 60!

16 New Business Plans for 60 th Reunion –Probably have a larger turnout for “60 at 60” –Might be able to fit into Thayer Hotel –Volunteers welcome for reunion chairman Discussion GO LIKE 60!
