3 Dial 911 and Then Call Campus Police In Emergency Indoors

4  Register your cell phone for NOVA Alert.  NOVA Alert sends text messages to your cell phone and email addresses about weather closings and emergencies.  To be part of NOVA Alert, you must register for it! NOVA Alert Emergency Announcements http://www.nvcc.edu/manassas/emergency

5 Emergency Signals  Fire Alarm & Flashing Lights = Evacuate  “Air Raid Siren/Voice” = Shelter in Place  Westminster Chimes = All Clear; return to normal

6 Emergency TV Announcements These screens may be used for announcements about emergencies.

7 Emergency Announcements Classroom Phones These phones may be used to alert faculty and students about an emergency

8 Please find the nearest exit and evacuation route. Look for a map by the doorway of each room.

9 In Case of Fire, Pull Alarm

10 Flashing Lights and Fire Alarm = Evacuate

11 Warning! DO NOT USE STAIRS IF STAIRWELL SEEMS TO CONTAIN SMOKE OR EXCESSIVE HEAT. Take all belongings with you! There may be no re-entry into buildings.

12 Evacuation Chairs For Disabled Person – With Permission

13 Emergency Wardens Know What To Do. Follow Their Instructions! Take all belongings ! Don’t use cell phones!

14  Take the nearest external exit to the outdoors and go to the Assembly Area: on the grass by the fence at the large B Lot in front of campus.  Do not go into the roads or traffic circle!  Report to the Assembly Warden at that location. Wardens should account for all students and staff, and Instructors will be asked to take roll. Evacuation Directions in front of both Colgan and Howsmon Halls

16 DO NOT GO INTO THE ROADWAYS OR THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE EMERGENCY PERSONNEL AND VEHICLES NEED THOSE AREAS!

17 Evacuation Directions in the back of both Colgan and Howsmon Halls  If you exit via a stairwell, you must go all the way to the 1 st floor exit.  Then go to the Basketball Hoop in the middle of the B parking lot behind Howsmon Hall.

18 Basketball Hoop Near Amphitheater Assembly Area For Those Exiting MC and MH From the Back

19 Evacuation Directions MT and MS Buildings Take your belongings and Go to the playing fields between the two buildings Unless Otherwise Directed By Police Or Emergency Authority

20 Assembly Area for MS, MT, MM Use Athletic Field Between MS and MT Near Tree Line (Away From Buildings)

21 DO NOT LEAVE CAMPUS! Do not exit campus until directed to do so by police or emergency authorities. We have only one exit road and that road may be needed by emergency personnel! The alarm may signal only an evacuation drill, and classes may resume quickly! Do not turn on cell phones until the police give permission.

22 During Prolonged Evacuations  Tents may be used to protect from weather; for medical triage; for press; and for Incident Command Center  Signs may designate Purpose of each tent  Campus has 4 tents

23 What Kind Of Shelter In Place Emergency? Listen to speaker system and to emergency wardens for instructions! Weather Emergencies Police Emergencies  The actions to be taken are different for these two kinds of emergencies Announcements are made periodically, if information/staff are available.

24 SHELTER IN PLACE WEATHER EMERGENCY “ Weather Emergency” Means:  Go to the designated shelter areas.  Take all your belongings.  Wait for “all clear” signal. Announcements will be made as information becomes available.

25 Shelter In Place – Weather Emergency  Shelter in place instructions are near the door of your classroom.  Contact the Business Office if you need a wallet size green card with instructions for sheltering in place and for evacuations.  The Emergency Wardens know where the closest shelter in place locations are. Follow their instructions.  Look for these signs. Restrooms also may be used.

26 “Police Emergency” Means shelter in place where you are (or in the nearest room)  Gather your belongings in case evacuation follows.  Do not use cell phones until authorized.  Wait for All Clear Signal. Announcements will be made as more information is available.
