3 Problem Statement To design and build a machine that would decorate cakes, cookies, and anything that is placed upon it with a frosting design predetermined by the owner.

4 Background In the baking occupation decoration is very important to make a product that is aesthetically pleasing for customers. This decorating takes lots of time and is very tedious work. Not all bakers are good decorators. In the baking occupation decoration is very important to make a product that is aesthetically pleasing for customers. 5 Background Continued Machines are out there for certain types of decorating but they are very expensive. The average mom and pop bakery cannot afford such a device. These machines are also very large and used to pushing out thousands, the average low level baker might need a few hundred max. There are also screen printers for photo images but this can give the confectionaries a fake look.

6 Constraints A device that is cheap enough for normal bakeries to own, that will utilize an automated table along with frosting extension arm to decorate confectionaries in seconds. By limiting the mechanics the design will have more complex software, but comparatively the cost will be greatly reduced. Eventually a baker will be able to load a predesigned monochromatic design from Microsoft paint into the machine and the design will be produced using continuous line design.

7 Prototype Parameters 4 inch maximum cookie. 3 predetermined designs. Monitor frosting usage amount needed for design. Limited to one frosting color.

8 Solution Polar Coordinate system, instead of using X,Y Coordinate system: – Use a rotating mechanism to move cookie to every known angle. – An Arc mechanism will deliver frosting to any radius. Frosting dispenser will be similar to toothpaste tube, with a hose mounted on radial mechanism. User interface will be 4 buttons: Reset, Pattern 1- 3.
