3 URANUS Father: No father Mother: Gaea Children: Titans, Cyclopes  Personification of heaven and the sky.  Decided to banish the Cyclopes into Tartarus. Gaea was extremely upset and had their son Cronus stand up to him.  Using a sickle, Cronus mutilated Uranus, creating the Furies, Giants, and Aphrodite.

4 GAEA (GAIA) Father: Chaos Children: Uranus, Titans, Cyclopes  Gaea was best known as "mother earth."  Later mated with her first born child Uranus, and produced her other horrific offspring (e.g. Cyclopes).  She was depicted as a very large woman.

5 CRONUS (SATURN) Father: Uranus Mother: Gaea Wife: Rhea Children: Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus  The ruler of the Titans; overthrew his own father.  Swallowed his children for fear of being dethroned.  Rhea hid Zeus away; later he dethroned Cronus.

6 RHEA Father: Uranus Mother: Gaea Husband: Cronus Children: Demeter, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon, Zeus  Mother of the gods of Olympus  Gave her children to Cronus as soon as they were born; Cronus swallowed them  She hid Zeus away from Cronus

7 OCEANUS Father: Uranus Mother: Gaea Wife: Tethys Children: Oceanid Nymphs, 3000 rivers, Seas  A serpent-like being that encircles the Earth.  Replaced by the god Poseidon came to power as the god of the oceans, rivers, and water.  He was the only titan that was not against Zeus in the war.

8 TETHYS (SALACIA) Father: Uranus Mother: Gaea Husband: Oceanus Children: Oceanids, Styx

9 HYPERION Father: Uranus Mother: Gaea Wife: Thea Children: Helios, Selene  Hyperion is sometimes classified as a god of the sun. However, other stories actually use his name to represent the Sun itself.

10 ATLAS Father: Iapetus Mother: Clymene  A leader in the battle between the Titans and the Olympians.  The Titans were defeated in this war and were placed in Tartarus as punishment.  Atlas was not granted this punishment and was instead forced to carry the entire weight of the sky and the Earth on his shoulders.  Relieved of his duty once by Hercules, but was later tricked into resuming his burden.

11 PROMETHEUS Father: Iapetus Mother: Clymene  Name meaning “fore-thought”  Teacher of astronomy, medicine, navigation, metalwork, architecture, and writing  Took part in the creation of mankind  Stole fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to mankind  Chained to a rock on Caucasus Mountains, everyday a vulture would come and devour his liver, which grew back every night

12 EPIMETHEUS Father: Iapetus Mother: Clymene Wife: Pandora  Name meaning “after-thought”  Created animals, gave most of the good qualities (strength, thick furs, etc) to animals, nothing left for humans  Took Pandora as his wife, they opened the box of evils together
