Copyright 2008 Vision Australia Daisy Online What is Daisy Online? It is a protocol that standardises the communication between a compliant Reading System and a DAISY based service eg library How does the Daisy Online standard bring Daisy, SOA and the World Wide Web together? It has been primarily built to transfer Daisy and other accessible content from a service provider to a Reading System. It defines a Web Service and specifies the use of associated standards and satisfies the requirements of a service orientated architecture A reading System downloads/streams content over http and https, and interacts with a Service through the web Service defined by this protocol.

What Next? Standardised communication between a Reading System and a Service provider. Would not be possible without the contribution of many members of the DAISY community. The Daisy Online Standard is scheduled to be submitted for approval as a draft standard for test use at the Daisy Board meeting this weekend. The test implementations will allow DAISY developers to develop products or implement protocol into existing and new DAISY readers – hardware and software. The next step could be to extend the standard to enable communication between two Service Providers for the interchange of content - the Global Library?
