CCDE is parallel to CCIE in terms of difficulty, and expertise. It emphasizes network design principles at the routing layer and recognizes expertise of designers that have the knowledge to assess network business requirements and can translate them into technical specifications to be incorporated into successful designs.

(2)They have the ability to design a vendor transparent network architecture which is: adaptable, scalable, application ready, optimized, and cost appropriate. (3)They have the ability to use broad and deep advanced technical networking knowledge with applied focus to solve business problems, and bring more business value from the network (4)They have the ability to design elegant solutions, including design tradeoffs, troubleshooting of architectural design flaws, and the knowledge of where aggregate routes/filters need to be applied and which types of routing protocols be used. “ CCDEs work with given functional specifications to produce a detailed network design for large-scale, complex, global network that is extensible, resilient, secure, and supportable. ”

8 © 2006 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved.Cisco ConfidentialPresentation_ID 8 Gather and clarify network functional specifications. Develop network designs to meet functional specifications. Develop an implementation plan. Convey design decisions and the rationale for the design decisions. CCDE Example Deliverables CCDE sample tasks and deliverables Adding remote sites to network: The details of the remote site are not provided; so the CCDE must obtain requirements for the site and create a design that meets the requirements and stays within budget and time frames. CCDE Example Task Adding an L2VPN to the network: The CCDE is responsible for determining what type of L2VPN based upon the current network, the expectations of the L2VPN, the budget, and the time frame.
