1 Professional Teacher Education Unit Urban Education Option A Teacher Quality Partnership between Kennesaw State University and Cobb County School District

2 This five year project is designed to increase academic achievement for students in urban schools in Cobb County, Georgia and beyond, through the development of an innovative teacher preparation program. The Bagwell College of Education and teacher preparation partners in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Science and Mathematics at Kennesaw State University (KSU) collaborate with the Cobb County School District (CCSD) in developing, implementing, and evaluating a seven-school Vertically Articulated Professional Development School (VAPDS) model for teacher preparation in Area 2 of Cobb County. 3 Purpose? The purpose of the Urban Education Option is to partner with teachers, parents, community groups, administrators, as well as Cobb County public school students to prepare teacher candidates to effectively teach in high need, urban schools.

Take classes on site at our 7 partner schools Cohort model – same students taking all UE classes with you Yearlong Internship – consistency with collaborating teacher UE classes are reserved Build relationships with students, staff, and families Additional instruction in culturally relevant training and technology Sustained instruction and mentoring in CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Post graduation mentoring to create a smooth transition into the first year of teaching

18 Eligibility Have a minimum 2.75 adjusted GPA when entering College of Teacher Education Apply to Teacher Education and gain acceptance at the designated semester according your program Pass GACE basic skills testing (Reading, Writing, & Math) *Exempt if SAT: minimum score 1,000 (Verbal/Critical Reading+Mathematics) or ACT: minimum score 43 (English+Mathematics) Be ready for some junior level course work by fall 2013 Be able to take responsibility for transportation to and from the schools in Area 2, which is located in the southern quadrant of Cobb County, in the Smyrna/Marietta region Provide application materials including a cover letter, 2 letters of recommendation, a background check, completed verification of liability insurance form, transcripts from Owl Express (Banner), and participate in an interview  KSU student deadline is March 1, 2013  Transfer student deadline is August 1, 2013
