Population Projection for Karachi
An increase of another 4 million people Projection in KTIP Projection in KSDP 2020 An increase of almost 9 million people Current Population On an average the population will grow at a rate of 4.1% per annum. the population is expected to increase to 27.5 million in year 2020. The population growth is not linear because of the fact that after a certain time people starts shifting to new locations, but still it is expected to be above 30 million by the year 2030. Gadap Town New Karachi Town Kemari Town Bin Qasim Town Most of the population growth is expected to take place in the out skirts of the existing city i.e. Gadap Town, Bin Qasim Town, Keamari Town, New Karachi Town as the centre is already densely populated.

Status of Existing Public Transport [Vehicle Count VS Occupancy Comparison]
4.5% composition of Public Transport Vehicles carry 42% of Total Persons Traveling in the City. Private Cars which is 36.5% of Total Vehicular Traffic carries only 21% of Persons. Showing Lesser Average Vehicle Occupancy. The above leads to the conclusion that there is still deficiency of Public Transport availability on all Major Routes in the city.

Karachi Transport Improvement Plan 2030
In order to improve the transport situation in Karachi city KARACHI TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT STUDY PROJECT 2010 – 12 was conducted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in association with Karachi Mass Transit Cell (KMTC), Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) including preparation of Transport Master Plan with 2030 vision

The JICA Study Team has reviewed the corridors and the systems in previous plans and analyzed alternatives corridors and systems. The master plan network consists of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), Two Mass Rapid Transits (MRTs) named as Blue Line and Brown Line and 6 Bus Rapid Transits (BRTs) along major corridors.

Karachi Transport Improvement Plan 2030
JICA identified Red, Green and Yellow Line as priority corridors and completed technical feasibility study for Red and Green Line. No resettlement and Land procurement issues in the BRT Corridors/Lines. The Project Development of BRT Yellow Line was approved in the 9th PPP Policy Board held in November 2012. Accordingly KMTC, KMC has engaged a consortium of consultancy firms consisting of financial, legal and technical, expertise to act as Transaction Advisors for the Project in April 2013. The Advisory Consortium consists of

Bidding Documents (RFP & Concession Agreement) to be prepared for BRT Yellow Line shall be used for the Project. Resultantly Cost saving for Government. Note for Chief Secretary for formation of Technical and Financial Evaluation Committee (a requirement of SPPRA) for Green Line is in process.

Decisions Solicited Formal approval by Honorable Chief Minister, Sindh for formation of “Sindh BRT Company”. After detailed legal review, a formal Summary to be moved by Transport Department, GoS with the necessary particulars for approval of Honorable Chief Minister. Approval of PPP Policy Board is required for launch of Yellow Line under PPP Mode. RFQ, EoI and Project Brief have been completed and can be finalized in a week’s time. Launch of Red and Green Line shall be made after launch/progress of Yellow Line considering the considering the investment climte.
