From the CScope State Conference 2011

Performance indicators reveal what the students know, understand, and are able to do. Tammy McDuff, CScope Conference, August 2011 Silsbee ISD To effectively implement CScope, use the unit tests along with the performance indicators. ELAR and Social Studies are hit hard on the STAAR; so performance indicators are an excellent tool. Performance indicators are evidence of student attainment of and/or progression toward TEKS. PI include a tangible product or some sort of observable performance.

Keep in Mind… Some indicators are on-going. PI’s are multi-step; teach them in pieces. Effective teachers work backwards. You must know what is at the end before you begin.

Ok, seriously…we don’t know much yet…BUT…here’s what we do know: Tested standards : Readiness Necessary for next grade Tested every year Broad and deep concepts, skills, & ideas 30-40% of eligible TEKS 60-65% of STAAR Supporting Introduced for following year or reinforced from previous year No defined testing year Narrowly defined content & concepts 60-70% of eligible TEKS 35-40% STAAR Paula Pemberton-Kelm CScope Conference, August 2011

Reporting categories (objectives) for Reading: Understanding Across Genres (3-4) Understanding and Analysis of Genres (5-8) Understanding and Analysis of Literary Texts Understanding and Analysis of Informational Texts Paula Pemberton-Kelm CScope Conference, August 2011

Reporting Categories for Writing: Composition (2 comp’s: personal narrative & expository) Revision (9 multiple choice) Editing (19 multiple choice) Paula Pemberton-Kelm CScope Conference, August 2011 Good news! There will be no more automatic failures because a child scored a 1on the composition, but passed editing.

Outside resources are a must within CScope. Along with your basal, you can use academic databases like EBSCO, Encyclopedia Britannica, United Streaming (Discovery), or Safari Montage. *Talk to your librarian about user names & passwords.
