33 Only clay was deposited in the drainage basin. Clay is lighter than sand so it can travel greater distances.

34 Alright smarty pants. How did the deposition in the drainage basin during our flood stage (plateau) differ from the standard river (plateau)?

35 There was a greater amount of water coming from our water source (mountains). This extra water coming forward created greater force, so a greater amount of clay was deposited into the drainage basin. However, there was still no sand in the drainage basin (too heavy, not enough force).

36 Ok, so you have a photographic memory. Let’s see just how good it is. Explain the deposition in the drainage basin from our Standard river….SLOPE!

37 During the experiment a lot of clay and sand began to clog the hole at the bottom of the green tray. This hadn’t happened in previous experiments. The incline of the landform combined with the force of the river helped carry sediment farther than before. While it appeared that there was more clay in the basin than before (it took a lot longer to drain through the filter) there were pieces of sand present in the basin as well (that hadn’t happened before either!)

39 Here goes… The standard slope drainage basin did have some sand (due to slope and force of standard river). The flood slope drainage basin had A LOT of sand due the the amount of water being released at once. This created greater force which devastate the landform quickly (although not in great detail). therefore, there was more sand AND clay in the drainage basin.
