2 S Setting The Hunger Games Has many, many settings in this novel. They range from glamorous cities to dirt poor districts. The story starts in district 12, the poorest of all the districts. District 12 is also home to two of the main characters in this novel (Peeta Mellark and Katiniss Everdeen). Katiniss hunts for her family’s survival, her father died in a coal mining accident (district 12 I known as the coal mining district). Lastly, the overall setting is that it is in post-apocalyptic North America.

In her bag, she finds Iodine, a sleeping bag, a water flask, flint, and canned meat. On the first day, 13 people die, and she is disappointed in Peeta for joining with the careers, or so she thinks he joined the careers. Rising action P

She goes to the cornucopia and finds someone guarding it. Katiniss shoots a bag full of apples with her bow and causes the pile of supplies to explode. But unbeknownst to Katiniss, the careers have found Rue and are attempting to kill both of them. 23 The rest of the Hunger games With Rue dead, Katiniss is angry and wants to avenge her death, then while she is mourning of Rue’s death, the game makers make a new rule saying that members of the same district can win together. Katiniss finds Peeta camouflaged and badly bruised and the 2 make an alliance. Katiniss and Peeta then hide in a cave and then kiss each other (only for sponsors) and because of it they got medical supplies. Then, the Gamemakers make another announcement saying at the cornucopia there was supplies that everyone needed. Katiniss goes there and is almost killed until Thresh, the male tribute for district 11 saves her only because she helped out Rue. Then while running from all the other tributes at night, they are almost killed by wild dogs and Cato. Then after a short and emotional battle on top of the cornucopia, Cato is pushed off. The game makers revoke the rule and the 2 almost kill each other, but then they quickly put the rule back in place. The hunger games are now over with peeta mellark and Katiniss everdeen the victors. 32 Katiniss V. Society  In the book, Katiniss is frequently put to the test of following with what her society tells her to do or her values. An example of this is the Hunger games, she has to kill or be killed. She wants to live to help her family but in order to do so, she must kill other human beings which she doesn’t want to do.

33 Katiniss V. Other tributes  Most of the other tributes (except for those in 1,2,3, and 4) want to just go back home alive and not kill. But Some kill because that is what they have been trained to do their whole life. So many are after Katiniss
