1 Project Leaflet Introduction The LITSSW project will transfer an innovative and successful language interpreter training course, created and delivered by Dacourm Council for Voluntary Service (working name Community Action Dacorum) in the UK, to partner locations Runi Center in Bulgaria, iberika in Germany, Active Citizens Partnership in Greece and Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci in Italy. What is “Interpreter Training as a Stepping Stone to Work? The role of an interpreter is to breakdown communication barriers and to reduce the level of misunderstanding between immigrants and the institutions that provide the services they want to access. Trained interpreters demonstrate a measure of quality as well as ethics relating to their role. The transfer of the interpreting course from UK will increase training opportunities in partner countries. Above all, the interpreter training is a great stepping stone towards the world of work as well as improving self confidence and knowledge. Aims of the Project This will be achieved by: To carry out the Need Analysis research to establish what interpreting provision is present in the partner countries. Adaptation of the current UK training course to the partner countries Training of trainers to tutor the interpreters training courses in their country Delivery of 2 pilot training courses in each partner country, thus training a total of 24 students per partner as public service interpreters Review of outcomes of the first pilot course and adaptation to the 2 nd Pilot course Development of e-learning modules Review of the second pilot training course and creation of the final training package Language Interpreter Training as a Stepping Stone to Work The Project Partners Dacorum CVS: Dacorum CVS (working name Community Action Dacorum) is based in Hemel Hempstead, which is 35km north-west of London. It was formed in 1947 and engages in a wide variety of subject areas. It’s core role if to provide advice on capacity building and funding to local groups. Other services include European Projects, Interpreter training, shop mobility, Community Cars, Creative Learning and Adult learning..Website: www.communityactiondacorum.org.uk www.communityactiondacorum.org.uk Runi Center: RUNI was founded in 1996 in Sofia, Bulgaria and in 2007 was re-registered in Center RUNI EOOD. The organisation offers good opportunities in different spheres of education. The activities are in three main fields – formal education, non- formal education and working on national and international projects. Its main goals of activities are gaining knowledge, soft skills and qualifications which help people to adapt to the dynamics of social changes and nowadays requirements.
