4  Implementation, within the framework of the African Information Society Initiative (AISI), of: the Declarations of the African Union Heads of State; and Resolutions of the AU Ministers in charge of Communication and Information Technologies (MCIT) and the AU Ministers in charge of Science and Technology (AMCOST).  Assessing the outcome of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the Connect Africa Summit Goals.  The harmonization of ICT policies in sub-Sahara Africa (HIPSSA) Project ICT Focus Areas

5 Achievements  Series of stakeholders workshops on harmonization of cyber legislation & cyber security: 28 Nov-2 Dec 2011, Libreville; 20-22 Feb 2012, Abidjan; 9-11 May 2012, Rabat; 20-22 June & 30-31 Sep 2012, Addis Ababa; 2 Sep 2012, Khartoum.  African Union Convention on Cybersecurity adopted by AU CIT ministers in September 2012 in Khartoum to be tabled at the Summit of African HoS&G in 2013  Support was provided to ECCAS, ECOWAS & SADC to develop model Cybersecurity Laws and regulatory framework, under HIPSSA  Stakeholders meting was organized with RECs and other stakeholders to review and validate the Assessment Report of the Connect Africa Summit Goals, Addis Ababa, July 2012

6 Achievements  A SADC e-commerce strategy was developed and adopted by the SADC Conference of ICT Ministers in April 2012 in Mauritius  An e-employment project was rolled out in selected ECCAS countries and a sub-regional workshop on e-employment held in Libreville from 12-13 November 2012  Letters of support was secured for dotAFRICA from 70% of African Governments to promote development of local digital content and development of Internet across the continent; and Early Warning objections are currently being fielded in favour of Dot Africa to ICANN  The first African Internet Governance Forum was held from 2-4 October 2012 in Cairo  The African Geodetic Reference Frame (AFREF) annual workshop and SC were held from 11-13 Oct 2012 in Nairobi  Study and capacity building for COMESA on cybersecurity and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) underway

7  Development of trans-African Highway (TAH) -- a roadmap adopted by African Ministers of Transport Conference in Luanda in Nov 2011 & endorsed by AU HoSG Summit in Addis Ababa in Jan 2012  Trade & transport facilita­tion in Africa – a compendium of legal instruments aiming to facilitate trade and transport in order to make easier their access and use. 8 Achievements & immediate plans  Consultants are being recruited to form working group for preparing harmonized norms for the continent.  First African Road Safety Day will be launched on 18 Nov 2012  Two training workshops on Road Safety data management will be held on 19-21 Nov 2012

11  Snapshot on Drinking Water and Sanitation in Africa - 2012 Update( AMCOW/UNICEF/WHO)  Support to AMCOW’s Africa Region preparatory process for the 6th World Water Forum and co- organizing the target 1 session at the forum  Support to countries to improve WATSAN service provision for the urban poor & leverage resources for scale up under Water for African Cities Programme/LVWATSAN and Lake Tanganyika Water and Sanitation Initiative Achievements

12  Ten Year Review of Transboundary Waters Publication  Extensive Contributions on the 6 th World Water Forum Africa Region  Holding a 2 nd workshop of ISARM for ECCAS sub- region held in Douala from 15-17 Oct 2012  Organising regional consultation on groundwater governance Nairobi from 29-31 May 2012  High resolution Groundwater survey following WATEX technology conducted in Ethiopia & Kenya. Achievements

13  Need for mobilizing resource to undertake planning and implementation of joint cluster activities  Inter cluster collaboration and coordination not adequate  Lack of primary data (esp. for water and energy)  Commitment of all stakeholders and partners could improve  Mainstreaming of crosscutting issues (climate, gender, productive work, etc) not sufficient esp. in energy & transport Challenges

14  ICT is overall crosscutting & should be integrated in all clusters, hence collaboration mechanisms should be sought with other clusters  High level & quality of experts participating leads very rich discussions and important outcomes  Involving key partners & ownership of activities by the beneficiaries essential for implementation of activities  The availability of framework of cooperation between institutions is important for resource mobilisation Lessons Learned

15  Activities on mining are included in the AU TYCBP  Heads of State and Government requested implementation of the Africa Mining Vision  Establishment of the African Mining Development Centre (AMDC)  Need for the creation of a Sub-Cluster on Mining alongside Energy, Water, ICT and Transport  Direction is sought from the RCM Sub-cluster on Minerals ?
