8
DEFINITION DEFINATION- A dental implant is prosthesis placed in bone(root) allowed to osseintergrate to support an artificial tooth(crown) cylindrical threaded
9
H OW IT WORKS Take a titanium post and inserting it deep within the jaw bone. The bone accepts and osseointegrates with the titanium rod, merging into the bone in a similar manner as to how a natural tooth root is enclosed within the bone. Once the bone has completely fused with the titanium, an artificial tooth can be secured into the rod
10
MEDICAL HX ORAL EXAM. IMAGING ; Imaging is done before and after dental implants placement to assess bone characterstics at the site of insertion. High resolution CT imaging.Bone type,Bone thickness, Density TREATMENT PLAN COST IMPLICATION CONSENT NOT FOR CHILDREN & TEENAGERS PATIENT SELECTION
11
PROCEDURE o Surgical procedure o Flap surgery:- insert titanium post in the bone (swelling, bruising, pain, and minor bleeding around the gum area is expected) o Restorative procedure o maintenance
12
I MPLANT DESIGN ( OVERDENTURE )
13
CHALLENGES Injuries to the surrounding teeth Nerve damage Pain, numbness, or tingling feeling in the gums, mouth, chin, or neck area Sinus problems, especially if the implants are being placed in the upper jaw. Infection at or around the implantation area
14
Advantages o Feels and chews like real teeth o Doesn’t alter neighbouring teeth o Completely secure after healing o No creams or glues are needed o Better for long-term oral health o Looks identical to real teeth o Can be used for one tooth or several o Easy to care o Improve o High success rate of around 95% o bone stabilization & maintenance
15
Disadvantages o Expensive o Patient selection risk of screw loosening risk of fixture failure length of treatment time need for multiple surgeries challenging esthetics
16
CONCLUSION 2-trained periodontists in implantology 3-trained restorative dentists in implantology Maxillofascial surgeons Need to train dental technologists Need to invest in the equipments and materials for these procedures
