Name of Artifact: Playground Project Date: July 3, 2014 Course: EDUC 240 Brief Description: For this assignment, We had to inspect to school playground areas and use the Public Playground Safety Handbook to compare the two sites. We had to observe and note what the locations had in common and what were the differences between the locations. Rationale: To document our understanding of Standard #3, We visited 2 playground sites, to show how they compare and contrast, and how they compare to the playground standards. Children are able to engage in physical activity while playing on playground sets. By putting musical instruments, and maps around the playgrounds, children are able to learn new skills, and engage in learning, while playing. INTASC Standard, Description and Rationale

7 Each playground was free of the following:  No sharp points, corners or edges on the equipment  No missing or damaged protective caps or plugs  No hazardous protrusions  No potential clothing entanglement hazards, i.e. open S-hooks or protruding bolts  No trip hazards, i.e. exposed footings or anchoring devices, rocks, roots, or any other obstacles  No loose fastening devices or worn connections  No user modifications to the equipment, i.e. strings or ropes tied to equipment, swings looped over top rails, etc. Why We are Safe

11 Loose Filling Surfacing  Both playgrounds have mulch filling.  Wood mulch needs 9 in. of filling to protect 7 ft. of protection.
