3 Frog & Toad Facts Frog & Toad Facts  Found in all parts of the world.  Over 3,500 species (kinds).  Members of the amphibian classification group.  Can live on land or water.

4 Froggy Facts!  Members of the family Ranidae.  More than 400 species.  Two Bulging Eyes.  Long webbed hind feet for leaping & jumping.  Smooth or slimy skin.  Lays eggs in clusters.

5 Toad Facts!  Members of the family Bufonidae.  More than 300 species.  Warty, brown & dry skin.  Short hind legs for walking instead of hopping.  Poison glands behind eyes  Lays eggs in chains.

6 Members of the “Frog” Family  Bullfrog  Common Frogs  Green Frogs  Leopard Frogs  Marsh Frog  Pickerel Frog  Wood Frog  These are just a few!!

8 Life Cycle of the Frog/Toad  Female frogs lay eggs in clumps called spawn. Each egg is in a ball of jelly.  Tadpoles hatch out of their eggs after about 7 - 10 days.  The tadpole has gills to breathe under water. They eat plants and bits of seaweed.  After about five (5) weeks changes take place. Back legs and lungs grow.

9  Front legs are next. A froglet is growing.  By three months the froglets are ready to leave the pond. The froglet will keep the skin wet.  The frog continues to grow and loses it tail. It likes to eat crickets, bugs and worms.  At about two years frogs are ready to start their life cycle again!

17 Interesting Facts!  A group of frogs is called an ARMY.  A group of toads is called a KNOT.  The lifespan of a frog generally averages between 4 and 15 years.  Enemies of the frog include: snakes, birds, lizards, hedgehogs & sharp toothed fish.  Largest Frog/Toad: Goliath Frog & Cane Toad  Smallest Frog: Gold Frog & Poison Frog
