2 How does breathing tobacco smoke affect your lungs?
Kinder What happens to your lungs if you smoke tobacco products or you are around someone who smokes tobacco products? If a person smokes, how will their body feel when they exercise or play? 1st Grade How does breathing tobacco smoke affect your lungs? 3 Air sac - small sacs in the lungs that hold air (alveoli)
Alveoli – air cells in the lungs Consequences – a result or outcome E- Cigarette- a battery operated device that contains nicotine designated to look like a regular tobacco cigarette Negative effects – something that could happen that is not good Second hand smoke – smoke from a cigarette, cigar, or pipe that is involuntarily inhaled Bronchiole Tubes – tubes that lead the air in and out of your lungs. Tar – black, gooey gunk that comes from the smoke of cigarettes, cigars, and pipes K2

4 Tobacco Law Tobacco-Free School Environment:
Tobacco use is prohibited by any person on District premises, at school or school-related activities Tobacco use is prohibited by AISD employees in District vehicles It is illegal for students to possess tobacco products on District premises, at school or school-related activities School personnel shall enforce these polices on school property K2

6 Tobacco Products Spit tobacco is placed in a person’s mouth and is spit out. Fire is not used to light this product and cause smoke. E-cigarette Spit Tobacco Cigarettes Pipe Cigar Tobacco products that cause smoke to go into the air produce second hand smoke. K2

7 Tar Teacher Note: Show the “Tar Jar” Black, gooey gunk that comes from the smoke of cigarettes, cigars, and pipes (tobacco products). It is what gives cigarettes their flavor. K2

8 Lungs Healthy Unhealthy
The healthy lungs are pink, because the person has never smoked. There is no tar in the healthy lungs. This person can breath and play hard. The unhealthy lungs are not pink, because the person has smoked. These lungs have tar. This person may have trouble breathing, bad breath, and catch a cold more often. 9 A person who does not smoke
Second Hand Smoke Smoke from cigars, cigarettes, pipes a non-smoker breathes in when around a smoker. John Emily SMOKER A person who smokes NON-SMOKER A person who does not smoke Even though Emily is not smoking she is breathing in second hand smoke from John. What can the smoke coming from John’s tobacco pipe do to Emily’s body? 1st Grade: Explain the negative effects of smoking and second hand smoke on your physical performance and on the body. (1.4E)

10 Negative Effects of Smoking
Hair will smell Less sense of smell Irritates eyes (red, itchy) Stains Teeth (yellow/brownish teeth) Wrinkles skin Less sense of taste Lungs get less oxygen Heart works harder Stained fingernails Discuss each example as they are revealed. If a person smokes, how will their body feel when they exercise or play? Clothes get smelly (stinky) or burned Kinder: Explain the negative effects of smoking on the lungs.
