3 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa Mission The purpose of the Texas School Ready! (TSR!) Project is to provide an effective, research supported, early childhood classroom model that prepares at-risk children to enter kindergarten at or above grade level.

4 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa History of Texas School Ready! 1990’s: State recognized a need for quality improvement efforts Early 2000’s: TEA support for research and development Texas Early Education Model (TEEM) validated through federally funded studies Model Adopted: Senate Bill 76 10 years of TEA and TWC support

7 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa Teacher Outcomes Summary TSR has a high fidelity of program implementation among teachers. Teachers show increases in their use of language-building strategies and emergent literacy instructional practices. Effectiveness of TSR was found to be comparable for teachers despite notable differences in their education levels and resources. TSR teachers are far more likely than their peers to engage in high quality practices such as responsive interaction and small- group instruction.

8 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa Child Outcomes Summary Vocabulary Children demonstrate larger vocabularies at post test, especially younger children and English language learners Complex Language English language learners, younger children who scored higher on the pretest, and older children who scored lower on the pretest especially benefit. Letter & Print Knowledge Significant gains result for children with lower skill levels at the beginning of the year. Phonologica l Awareness Older children tested in Spanish, as well as younger children tested in English, show significant improvement.

10 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa TSR Models Texas School Ready! participants can move up or down between models 1, 2 and 3 depending on their needs. All participants will have access to model 1. However, models 2 and 3 are limited in their resources and require a competitive application.

ISDs, Open Enrollment Charter Schools, Head Start Programs, Child Care Programs (for profit/nonprofit, faith and community based), Local Government, Community Based Organizations (CBO), Colleges/Universities, Education Service Centers (ESC), Local Workforce Development Boards *must include partnerships with Child Care ISDs, Open Enrollment Charter Schools, Head Start programs, Texas Rising Star Certified Providers, Agencies participating in TSR Online+ and TSR Comprehensive receive free access to these resources ISDs, Open Enrollment Charter Schools ONLY

18 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa Role of Lead Agent Lead agent is the HUB for TSR in the community Recruit early childhood partners (must include childcare) Recruit family-based childcare providers Host meetings and trainings Hire qualified personnel* Provide office space and project related amenities Designate an organizational leader Adhere to the financial rules and procedures Complete periodic reports Develop a sustainability plan Ensure the implementation of the TSR model in participating programs

20 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa Partner Program Eligibility Lead Agents must Recruit at least 20 classrooms from: Childcare Programs: –For profit/Nonprofit, Faith Based, Community Based –Serve at least 50% low income families –Maintain at least 6 children that are 3 years of age by September 1, 2015 in a participating classroom –Be in good standing with DFPS Head Start Programs Charter or Independent School Districts (ISD) Programs –Must have integrated partnership with child care or Head Start

21 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa Family-based Childcare Providers Lead Agents must recruit 2-10 family-based childcare providers per year (~10% total partner programs) Licensed or registered with DFPS Be in good standing with DFPS

25 www.texaschoolready.org/rfa Questions? Is there a particular model for the partnership between ISD classrooms and childcare? Does the model for partnership have to be a ISD teacher is a childcare or can the childcare teacher come to the ISD classroom? And is there a certain length of time the partner teacher is required to be in the partner's classroom? Can both classrooms ISD and Childcare be a part of the project?
