4 Overview – CCNY Grant Timeframe: 3 years, July 2008 – June 2009 Finances: –Total grant - $1m Project Governance –UPLS –Advisory Committee, representatives of the identified LIS sectors; ToR –Programme Co-ordinator LIASA-CICD Winter Seminar

5 Goal Objectives and activities to realise this goal –Establishment of the CALL within the precincts of the Merensky Library. –To build leadership expertise within the public and academic LIS sectors – further development opportunities & relevant skills based training Address the leadership development needs of current and future middle and senior managers of academic, public/community and national library services LIASA-CICD Winter Seminar

6 Goal Objectives and activities to realise this goal (contd) –6 x 2-week Leadership Academies (120) 20 participants per academy Curriculum to be designed in collaboration with the library schools at UP, UKZN and UCT Current best practices in library management, advocacy and communication skills, change management, refining of IT skills, mentorship, etc. –3 x 1-week Train-the-Trainer workshop (30) 10 participants per workshop Address the leadership development needs of current and future middle and senior managers of academic, public/community and national library services LIASA-CICD Winter Seminar

7 Progress Programme design – Oct 08, 1 st discussions with LIS schools Appointment of the PC –Mrs Martha de Waal –April 01, 2009 to end of project. Training facility – plans and designs –30 computers –2 x break away rooms –Flexible design –Mini-auditorium (2 nd phase) LIASA-CICD Winter Seminar

8 Progress 1 st Carnegie Library Leadership Academy, 05-17 July 2009, Leriba Lodge, Centurion. 20 participants – academic, public/community libraries Institutions represented Programme – theoretical and practical components; various formats of teaching & learning; visits and speaker sessions.
