GSC-9, Seoul921/05/2015 Working Group Aeronautical Ku band (1) The WG developed a Harmonized Standard (HS), EN 302 186, for Aircraft Earth Stations (AES) in the bands 14 GHz and 10-12 GHz, offering data and internet connectivity to crew and passengers on board aircraft; This work was based on the outcome of the WRC-03 and CEPT, also using existing VSAT and MSS Harmonized Standards; The HS as been adopted by ETSI after the Public Voting phase ended 23 Jan 2004; The HS is now under publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities (OJEC) by the European Commission; One of the AMSS proponents is now deploying its service around the world

GSC-9, Seoul Working Group Maritime Ku band (3) ETSI preparing candidate Harmonised Standards for Ku-band ESV, present status… ETSI TC-SES draft Harmonised Standard EN 302 XXX, requirements for: Protection of FSS systems (e.g. VSAT); Protection of Fixed Service; ETSI TC-ERM draft Harmonised Multipart EMC EN 301 843 part 6: EMC requirements for maritime ESVs ITU-R Res. 902 (WRC-03): Adopted co-primary allocation in the bands 5925 – 6425 MHz & 14.0-14.5 GHz; will be taken into account in formulating draft EN 302 XXX;.

GSC-9, Seoul1421/05/2015 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia To produce specifications, standards and other ETSI deliverables for broadband satellite multimedia. This includes: Definition of satellite system architectures supporting broadband services Service requirements and descriptions for broadband communications systems Definition of network architectures and interface protocols leading to air interface standards, interworking standards and other user terminal specifications. To liaise with relevant other standardization bodies (e.g. TIA, ITU) on satellite matters

GSC-9, Seoul1521/05/2015 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia (2) BSM Specialist Task Forces (STFs) Scenarios divided into three types: Access Network (unicast and multicast) Content Distribution to Edge Core Network Current work is focussed on Access Network scenarios

GSC-9, Seoul1621/05/2015 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia( 3) BSM WG has set the following priorities: GSO satellites Fixed systems Internet Protocol IPv4, IPv6 Current work items: IP interworking standards Satellite Independent set of higher layer standards Air interfaces Satellite dependent families of lower layer specifications Satellite Independent interface (SI-SAP) Common interface between higher layers and lower layers

GSC-9, Seoul1721/05/2015 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia( 4) BSM protocol architecture The BSM concept is to divide the air interface into 2 parts: Satellite independent upper layers Satellite dependent lower layers The upper layers contain a set of common IP interworking functions: Common ways of handling IP addressing, IP multicast and QoS etc. The lower layers contain the satellite specific parts. These layers are closely tied to the payload capability of the satellite and hence cannot be the same in all cases. Satellite Dependent Satellite Independent SI-SAP External Layers IPV4 or IPV6 UDPTCP Applications SLC-A SPHY-A SMAC-A SDAF-A FAMILY A SI-SAP ETSI Harmonized (RTTE) Requirements SLC-B SPHY-B SMAC-B SDAF-B FAMILY B SLC-C SPHY-C SMAC-C SDAF-C FAMILY C SIAF

GSC-9, Seoul Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia( 5) Detailed protocol architecture BSM architecture defines functional elements in the satellite independent layers –This is the main focus of the BSM and STF work Only a small number of generic functions need to cross the SI-SAP. For example: –address resolution –resource management –group management. The satellite dependent lower layers can support these generic functions in different ways –satellite dependent functional elements below the SI-SAP defined as part of the BSM families

GSC-9, Seoul2021/05/2015 Conclusion ETSI TC SES is one of the focal point for the standardisation of Earth Station and of Satellite on board equipment, for global applications. ETSI TC SES is open to co-operate with all other organisations. Examples of recent co-operations include ITU-T, TIA, TTA, ESA and Satlabs.
