4 December 6, 1941 FDR received a decoded message that instructed Japan’s peace envoy to reject all American peace proposals. “This means war” FDR responded

5 December 7, 1941 180 Japanese war planes attacked the largest U.S. naval base in the Pacific The Americans were caught off guard In less than 2 hours, 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 wounded The attack almost took out the whole Pacific fleet
