2 Two Schools in One: Traditional School: All currently enrolled 10 th, 11 th, and 12 th grade students will have the option of remaining at Hawthorne and will be allowed to graduate in succeeding years. Health Science Academy: Rising 9 th and 10 th grade students can apply to participate in the academy. This includes 10 th grade students who are currently enrolled at Hawthorne. By 2016, the health science academy will be fully implemented magnet school. Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences HAHS

3 What is Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences? Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences is designed to immerse high school students in a health science career oriented curriculum involving a hands- on learning environment and technical expertise. Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will include a career structure, high school online courses, college dual enrollment coursework, and an accelerated curriculum for advancement in science, technology and mathematics. Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will have a strong student support process to ensure that its graduates are college and/or career ready.

4 Partnerships National Academy Foundation (NAF) : addresses the critical achievement gap in STEM fields by developing a pipeline of students prepared to pursue health- related degrees and professions in one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy. North Carolina New Schools (NCNS): has partners in business, education and government at every level to develop and support innovative schools that share a fundamental goal: Engage all students with powerful approaches to teaching and learning and graduate all students ready for college, careers and life. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) : the leading provider of rigorous and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs used in middle and high schools across the U.S. Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) : local community college where students will be able to attend classes to create environments that generate positive, nurturing and learning-focused experiences in the classroom.
