1 Acrostic Poetry – Lesson #3 An acrostic poem Can be about anything Really Of course, some people like to Start each line as a sentence, Though I prefer words into a Creation that is more freeform.

2 Acrostic poem: Definition An acrostic poem uses the letters in a topic word to begin each line. All the lines of the poem should tell more about or describe the topic word. This verse is usually unrhymed. Acrostic poetry can be about ANYTHING!!

3 Here’s an example: Really wet outside Always remember your umbrella I love rainy days Need my rain boots

4 Another example… Chewy or soft Appetizing Never fails to cheer you up Delicious Yummy

5 Another example… Laughing at every joke. Over all the bad things. Very best relationship. Eternal.

6 Another example… S neaking around my basement P retty creepy I t is looking for dinner D own under the stairs building a web E yes like beads of glitter R eally gross

7 Another example… Summer is still in the distance Puddles cover the ground Rain seems to fall continually Ivy and irises begin to bloom Nice and long the days become Gone for the year is the winter cold

14 Now your turn! On a piece of paper, brainstorm topics you might like to write about. Here are some ideas: – Your first/last name – Your favorite month or season – Your favorite color – Your favorite animal – Your favorite sport – Your favorite sports team

15 Once you’ve chosen a topic….. Create a web of ideas about your topic Fall apples Foggy mornings Feels cooler outside Leaves change color

16 Acrostic Assignment Write 3 (three) different acrostic poems. Each acrostic must be about something different. The 1 st acrostic will be “single words”; the 2 nd acrostic will be “phrases”; the 3 rd acrostic will be a continuous sentence” Check spelling Use BIGGER words!
