2 “ How can we design problem/passion-based professional learning to engage our teachers for 21st century learners?”

3 No time for professional learning – sessions recorded and archived Don’t like to be out of the classroom so sessions are short about an hour - arrange for one sub to float to interested teachers classes Rationale for the Project This approach addresses the common concerns expressed by educators.

4 Ongoing – because the learning continues throughout the year teachers are supported in their learning over time. Reflective practice – use a Moodle LMS to build an online community to support Professional Learning

5 Having to travel to PLO sites – the online environment allows flexibility in time and location PD must be meaningful, focused yet flexible, use classroom teachers as presenters Personalizing learning for students/teachers

6 Techno phobic – have to experience it before they adopt it Environment and understanding at senior admin level-firewalls, foip, patriot act, Canadian version SOPA, copyright, digital citizenship. Change in pedagogy – moving from expert to facilitator and co-learner

8 Goals Provide teachers with a PLO that is delivered by teacher for teachers in a distributed learning mode. Accommodate the time and location constraints of busy professionals. Professional learning driven by personal learning needs. Learning is sustained. Support guided reflection

9 Assessment Visual Literacy Project/Problem Based learning Student Engagement/Social Action Projects Collaborating in an online environment Inclusive Education Broad categories that we would like to offer Professional Learning are:

10 1.ED approval May 1 budget – 50 dollar ITunes cards for each presenter + Free registration to one ARPDC- PLO for the 2012-13 school year. 2.Advertise and call for presenters May 15. A webpage off of ARPDC/Consortia linked to Google forms necessary and registration page. 3.Close first call June 30 th. 4.Set the Program August 15 -20 th. Process for Building the PLO

11 5.Confirm and get speaker agreements. 6.Advertise the event Sept. 1 st 2012. 7.Run the event Oct 4 th or Oct. 11 th. 8.Follow- up with participants - Learning Portal (Moodle) course with Forum for collecting anecdotal data. 9.Monthly twitter chat #onconf2012 10.May 2013 ONLine Going OFF-Line for summer. Wind- up Symposium –a conversation around what you’ve learned this year and connections for next year.

13 Call For presenters – We are looking for Alberta teachers who would to Turn On with colleagues for an online day of learning. We are looking for a presentation of about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. Create a Google Form.
