1 Standards Coordination SubGroup (SCSG) Brief-In October 2013

2 2 SubGroup Update Recent activities: Developed a process for managing standard requirements following submission of the Identification of Standards Requirements form, which includes maintaining a library of items and categorizing standards priorities for appropriate follow-up: –Category 1: The need is currently unaddressed. The SCSG follows up by requesting federal agency and standards development organization support in addressing these items. –Category 2: The need is being addressed and will be monitored until fully resolved. –Category 3: The need has been fully resolved, and no further action needed. Prepared letters to standards development organizations requesting assistance in support of six Category 1 standards priorities – on hold temporarily.

3 3 SubGroup Update Recent activities (continued): Standards priority survey - 8 standards for review: 6 Equipment 2 Training 148 responses Thanks to everyone who responded to the survey!

4 4 SubGroup Update Main Goals for this meeting: Categorize the standards priorities into the 3 previously mentioned categories. –Category 1 items (not being addressed) - will include them in the request for assistance to standards development organizations. –Will require input from at least the (1) Equipment SubGroup and (2) Training and Exercise SubGroup. Begin work on FY2014 work plan items - New tasks: –Guide explaining the importance of procuring equipment that meets standards and providing sample procurement language. –Needs and requirements document(s) for helmets and/or shields. –Will require input from the Equipment SubGroup plus knowledgeable IAB practitioners.

5 5 New SubGroup Members (if necessary) No new members. Currently: –15 members: 1 fire, 4 law enforcement, 10 federal employees. –7 invited SMEs from standards and certification organizations –2 invited law enforcement guests: Tom Nolan (law enforcement) and Cris Caldwell (law enforcement and corrections). Planning to increase law enforcement and fire representation.
