5 Things to know for Try outs! Bring a snack to eat after school Bring water What to wear? EVERYONE should wear a WHITE t-shirt Plain shorts Sports bra Good Gym Shoes (Cheer Shoes!!!) No Jewelry (no body piercings) Please write your first initial & last name on the back/front of a WHITE shirt everyday

6 Important Things to Note about Try Outs Candidates can do another Cary-Grove fall sport and coaches will work with other coaches to accommodate these girls. These girls will be placed on a squad based on their tryout skills. Once they are able to fully commit, their skills will be retested to see if that squad is the best fit. Cheerleaders may not participate in any club sport if they are part of the Cary Grove Cheerleading Teams will be chosen strictly on skills throughout the tryout process. Girls can be moved up or down if skills are gained or not maintained based on coaches discretion during practices

7 Tryouts will be run by CG cheer coaches and closed to all others. All girls will be judged on the following Motions, Running/Standing Tumbling, Showmanship, Stunts, Stunting Skills based on position, Jumps, and a Timed Mile Girls will be judged on their Stunting Skills in regards to their positions Flyers will be judged on their skills executed, flexibility, and baskets Bases and back spots will be judged on the skills they execute and strength **See the rubrics for additional explanations

9 Open Gyms Open Gyms will be held after school in April and May to practice skills for tryouts. These dates will be emailed shortly after break- Dates are unknown right now due to baseball field conditions

10 Summer Practice Will be held twice a week for 3 hours Track and upper gym **Attendance is mandatory unless cleared with a coach 48 hours in advance

11 Weightlifting Camp Designed to provide an opportunity for the students to develop: Strength, Speed, Agility, Conditioning, and Teamwork. Each day consists of 20 minutes of work in the wrestling balcony emphasizing speed, agility, and quickness. The weight room will require approximately 50 to 70 minutes of work to finish the assigned lifts. The lifting program will demand teamwork. You must work to improve, push yourself, use great form, and spot for others. **Mandatory for ALL Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors Four times a week: June 10th to July 18 Cost:$70 **Checks will go to Brad Seaburg

12 Cheer Camp July 28- August 1st 1-3:30 Cost $ 80 **This camp will consist of strengthening cheer skills and mindset, team unity/trust activities, strength/conditioning, and learning of new cheers, stunts, tumbling, and choreography for our homecoming routine. Coaches and skilled professionals will run this.

13 Little Kids Camp July 28-Aug. 1st 4-5:30 All squads should plan on assisting with little kid camp

14 Football Season Everyone cheers at Pre-game which is before all HOME Varsity games and HOME playoff games JV & Varsity cheer every Friday night (except homecoming is Saturday) Freshmen/Sophomore cheers Saturday mornings for ALL home and in district away games except homecoming because that is the homecoming parade.

15 Basketball Season We generally have 2-3 games a week. We cheer at all home and in district away games. That schedule will be posted when it is finalized.

16 Competition Season The Varsity squad will compete in 6 competitions, plus the State series JV squad will compete in 5 competitions as well, including the Fox Valley Conference Championship. Each squad will have alternates…alternates need to attend all practices and competitions.

18 Practice During football season, we will practice after school Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesday Please note during competition season we will have late practices in the gym All afterschool practices are 3:05-5:00 pm, unless noted otherwise. Choreography dates will be announced at a later date, in order to compete you MUST attend the MANDATORY choreography

19 During competition season, Varsity/JV may have morning practice and/or Saturday practices. After school, practices will take place every day. Once competitions are over, we will practice once a week. Summer Calendar will be available shortly on the website Extra practices may be added and/or are subject to change depending on if we can get the gym.

20 Attendance Perfect attendance is our expectation. There is no excuse when calendars are set up 2 months in advance. Every cheerleader should be present 100% of the time every practice, game and competition. This includes being ready on time and staying until the end of practice.

21 Cost Cheer costs included but are not limited to: Warm ups $100 Bows $15 Uniform Deposits $20 (JV) $40(Varsity) Cheer Camp $80 Weightlifting Camp $70 Tumbling $100 per session (Varsity), varies (JV) Cheer shoes $70

22 Fundraising Fundraising helps to pay for uniforms, bows, choreography, music, team parties, homecoming, camps etc. *They are a huge part of cheer! *Throughout the summer-car washes that will take place on a Saturday or Sunday. *During the school year, we sell Yankee candles along with other fundraisers which may be added as needed.

23 Parent Involvement As you all know, cheerleading has so many components to it throughout the season Fundraising, team dinners/parties, homecoming, holiday parties, competitions, community service projects, spirit signs, etc. Parent committees Parent volunteers are crucial with making CG cheer a success!!
