21 Summer and Fall 2011 Events July Major General Randy Fullhart in place as the new Commandant of Cadets Commander Mike Weaver replaced the retiring Lieutenant Colonel Bill Stringer as Deputy Commandant for 1 st Battalion August 383 freshman cadets arrive to bring the regiment to 949 cadets total, largest in 42 years September Freshman class takes trip to D-Day Memorial in Bedford, gift of Raymond Reed ‘57 Corps Homecoming held—largest alumni event of the fall, C-17 flyover crewed by 3 VTCC grads Caldwell March sponsored by alumni donating almost $50K to sponsor freshman cadets October Highty-Tighty Reunion results in largest ever combined cadet and alumni bands on field Pylon ceremony held in conjunction with Class if ‘61 reunion to add L. D. 28 Denver Chapter 3.2 for 32 Run/Walk Event 55 chapters participated in community service projects in 2010-2011 5 chapters held their first community service event Increase of 25% in number of service projects from 101 to 125 Goal for 2011-2012 is to have each chapter participate in a community service project at least once during the year.

29 Chapters Committee Focus 2011-2012 Continue to promote Alumni Board member engagement with local chapters and volunteers. Continue to develop identified programs to connect current students with local alumni chapters and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Develop new ideas for our chapter award system and volunteer recognition.

45 Social Media Presence: Hokie Nation Network (HNN) – 15,097 Groups and Clubs – 292 Facebook fans – 10,352 Twitter followers – 1,497 Objective: To keep the Hokie Nation connected. Encourage engagement and networking of Virginia Tech Alumni. Inform alumni about the programs and services that the Alumni Association offers, as well as programs offered by the university. Through the Hokie Nation Network (HNN), allow members to search job opportunities, post resumes, and receive career advice within a secure network. Goal: To reach 18,000 registered Hokie Nation Network members by June 30, 2012. An HNN contest will help increase member registration. An iPad will be offered to the contest winner.
