2  In Spanish there are two ways to greet people: formal and informal. This is an informal greeting between two friends. When using an informal greeting, use the subject “tú”. This is a formal greeting between a child and an adult. When using a formal greeting, use the subject “usted”. Cómo estás? ? Cómo está usted? ?

3 ¡Buenos d ί as! ¡Buenas tardes! ¡Buenas noches! In English this means “good morning”. This is said as a greeting before noontime. In English this means “good afternoon”. This is said from noon to six o’clock p.m. In English this means “good night”. This is said from six o’clock p.m. to morning.

4 ¡Adiós! ¡Hasta luego! ¡Hasta mañana! ¡Nos vemos! Good bye! This is used as both a formal and informal farewell. See you later! This is said as a farewell if you expect to see the person later in the day. See you tomorrow! We’ll see each other later!
