You will use evidence from the different texts that we read last week to prove your team’s point. The text you should be using is your textbook, the Christopher Columbus article and the Columbus Controversies article. Use the SAC handout to guide your learning. Share the packets among your team and write your answers in your notebooks. Work with your team to organize your thoughts and prepare to debate tomorrow. Objective

On one side you will be writing your argument and using three pieces of evidence to support. On the other side you will write the other team’s arguments during the debate. Directions

Green=Team A: Christopher Columbus should be celebrated Pink=Team B: Christopher Columbus should not be celebrated. Teams

Work with your teams and plan and decide four to five people that will speak and do the arguing. 1. Opening argument // 2. Evidence # 1 // 3. Evidence #2 // 4. Evidence #3 // 5. Closing argument PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR ARGUMENTS AND EVIDENCE Everyone will be completing page two of the packet and record the arguments of the opposite team. This will be done during the debate. Everyone will also have a chance tomorrow for rebuttals so be sure you organize and refine your evidence today. Please choose a recorder and have that person turn in a sheet today with everyone roles for tomorrow. Today’s SAC Agenda

5 minutes: organization. Remember: Everyone will be completing page two of the packet and record the arguments of the opposite team. This will be done during the debate. 35 minutes: Debate! 10 minutes: Team A’s opening arguments 10 minutes: Team B’s opening arguments 20 minutes: Rebuttals 5 minutes: Closing…Ms. Mahoney decides who won! Now I want you to write a reflection that tells me your real point of view. Remember to use evidence from the text for support and you can even use points made during the debate. Please use the rubric to guide you to getting an A. Put your name on your rubric and staple it to the back of your mini essay. Homework
