- A reflexive pronoun refers to the same person as the subject of the verb.

If you need the make the sentence negative, place the no in front of the reflexive pronoun (just like with gusta). Me ducho. I shower. No me ducho. I don’t shower.

-In verb combinations such as querer, poder and ir + infinitive, the reflexive pronoun may be attached to the infinitive. ex : Quiero despertarme temprano mañana. Me quiero despertar temprano.

- Many verbs that describe one’s daily routine require a reflexive pronoun in Spanish, even though the English equivalent may not use – self.

-Verbs that describe a physical or emotional change also require a reflexive pronoun. ex: dormirse (ue) –to fall asleep despertarse (ie) – to wake up enojarse – to get angry enfermarse – to get sick sentarse – to sit down

-Verbs whose English equivalent uses –self, such generally require a relexive pronoun in Spanish. ex: divertirse (ie) –to enjoy oneself comprarse - to buy oneself (something) mirarse – to look at oneself

- Some verbs that require reflexive pronouns are idiomatic such as : darse prisa – hurry up

-When the subject of the verb directs the action to someone or something else, the reflexive pronoun is not used. -lavar–to wash (someone/thing else) -lavarse- to wash oneself - despertar (ie)– to wake someone else up - despertarse (ie) - to wake up

Repaso: Reflexive pronouns come before the conjugated verb. Me ducho. When the verb is used in the infinitive, attach the reflexive pronoun to the end. Voy a ducharme.
