Discussion Purpose & Learning Objectives Begin the process of shifting to Community Impact Model – What is issue-based community impact? – What is the timeline for JLKD to make this shift? – How will membership be involved? To ensure the JLKD membership is knowledgeable on issue-based community impact and understand the timeline for shifting our League to the new model.

TOPIC ISSUE FOCUS IMPACT AREA STRATEGIES TACTICS Identifies a particular interest area within the topic; typically defined as an aspect of the topic that is of interest. Example: prevention and treatment of child abuse Community Impact: The terminology….. Activities to support strategies articulated as part of a range of strategies Detailed objectives of the impact area Examples: increase number of teen parents who access parenting education & increase access to support services for teen mothers Broadest definition of the outcomes desired. Example: teen parents have good parenting skills and support A particular aspect of the issue selected for impact. Example: effective parenting A topic is that which identifies a broad area of interest. Example: children & youth

Program versus Project Defining terms Projects yield outputs – 40 breakfast bags, 30 donated baskets Programs support the achievement of desired outcomes Program is a portfolio of multiple strategies and tactics: A system of services, opportunities or projects, designed to meet a (public or social) need –Advocacy –Direct Service –Community Partnerships A plan of action [comprising of a well considered portfolio of strategies and tactics] aimed at accomplishing a clear objective, with details on what work is to be done, by whom, when, and what resources will be used

Concentrated vs. diluted community impact Top-quality, high-visibility programming Heightened credibility (reputation) A widened sphere of influence for the League Membership sustainability (retention) More opportunities for diverse learning and leadership development experiences Networking opportunities with a wider range of organizations, funders, community influencers, and residents Major Implications

DISCUSSION Currently we are in the process of considering how will League functions change as a result of this work in all areas of JLKD. – Member Recruitment – Member Development – Finance – Fund Development – Communications – Community Activities
