4 The purpose of the Volunteer Leaders’ Summit is to align your passion, commitment and initiatives with SHRM’s goals and objectives to help you and your board achieve your maximum potential in 2015. As a key volunteer leader you will leave the summit with an understanding of how your chapter/state council can effectively plan for 2015 and beyond.

5 OVERVIEW OF BREAKOUT AGENDA

6 2015 SHAPE – Summary of Changes Section 1 - added 1 item each to Sections 1A and 1B 1A – Provide total number of members in your chapter 1B – Maintain a website (moved from in Section 3) Section 2 - added opportunity to do a strategic initiative for SHRM Certification Section 3 – SHRM Certification criteria added Register as a Preferred Provider to qualify for a Bronze Excel Award Includes a list of 7 items to choose from to support SHRM Certification Do 2 for Silver, 4 for Gold or 6 for Platinum SHRM Foundation items – clarified Recognition Credits Awards for Gold/Platinum – Star and Superstar goals reduced Added items for SHRM Certification

7 Upcoming Key Dates December 1 – SCLIFs/CLIFs are due – use online form to identify your 2015 officers December 15 – All 2014 Chapter membership updates are due December 31 - 2014 SHRM Foundation donations must be received January 5 – SHRM Certification tutorial available to those holding a valid HR generalist certification January 31 – SHAPE year-end report is due

22 Setting Goals Goals should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time- Oriented If the goal can’t possibly be achieved, it shouldn’t be in the plan What can the chapter or state council do in one year (SHAPE goals) and then in 3-5 years Thinking out beyond a year would be the strategic plan Identify barriers for every goal set and plan ahead before setting the goal

23 EXERCISE Primary Goals Given what you’ve already captured in previous exercises, what critical goals will you focus on to: Overcome gaps? Build growth? Provide needed services to your members? What priority would you give each one? Is the goal tactical or strategic?
