British and Irish Elite – have more political, economic and social power than most people. –They are of British heritage –Had themost say in the government –Owned most of the large businesses –Wasn’t interested in sharing power

French Heritage –The French mostly lived in Canada East and many had lived there since the 1600’s –They were given special rights when Britain took over. They could keep their language, laws, customs and Roman Catholic Faith

Acadians –The British forced the Acadians to leave when Britain took over because they didn’t trust them to stay loyal to Britain. –Eventually they were allowed to return –Upon returning their land was gone (taken over) and many lived in poverty.

Aboriginals –They faced many problems due to the British arrival 1.Loss of land – European settlers basically had the right to take over any land they wanted. They took the top quality land and left only poor quality and small areas. 2.Drop in Population – this was due mainly to disease. Europeans brought with them new diseases that the Aboriginals were not able to fight off. Also the Aboriginals were not getting enough to eat (starvation due to lack of land).

Black Loyalists They came to BNA during the American Revolution They were treated differently than British Loyalists. They were given less land and they had trouble getting legal ownership of the land they were given.
