1 The Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching Project Directors Meeting November 29, 2011 The Texas A&M University System Mid-Career Teacher Recruitment Grant

2 The Texas A&M System Mid-Career Grant Program Highlights: Participants receive up to $5,000 to become a certified STEM teacher. –$2,500 tuition reimbursement for participants –Up to $2,500 for intern fees (must have secured employment in high-needs school district) Public Service Announcements: www.lifeisloud.org www.lifeisloud.org Council of Deans and Advisory Council Online Science and Mathematics Methods Courses Participation in BTIM grant (if district qualifies)

3 TAMUS Mid-Career Grant Cohort 2 Funded 45 participants statewide in 2010-2011. –45 Tuition Reimbursement Awards –28 Intern Fee Awards 5 candidates were hired after the Intern Fee Award deadline. 22 of the 33 hired are participating in the BTIM grant.

4 TAMUS Mid-Career Grant Cohort 2 13 males / 32 females 13 math / 32 science –11 are grades 4-8 –34 are grades 8-12 Previous occupations include: –Histologist- Credit Analyst –Microbiologist- Computer Programmer –Paramedic- Army –Auditor- Engineer

5 Online Methods Courses Science Methods Course – Summer 2011 –Taught by Dr. Gil Naizer from TAMU-Commerce on the INACT platform –13 students enrolled TAMU-Commerce TAMU-Kingsville TAMU-Texarkana Mathematics Methods Course – Fall 2011 –Taught by Dr. Tom Faulkenberry from TAMU-Commerce on the INACT platform –13 students enrolled TAMU- Commerce TAMU-Texarkana

6 PACT Content Resources “Quick Helps” created by subject matter experts on the high need areas in math and science. Science –Chemistry –Earth Science –Physics –Space Science Mathematics –Geometry –Mathematical Processes and Perspectives –Number Concepts –Probability and Statistics

7 TAMUS Mid-Career Cohort 3 Recruitment for Cohort 3 to begin in Spring 2012. Target is for 50 participants statewide 7
