3 The FLC Northeast Region consists of all the New England states, New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico, with approximately 35 member R&D laboratories. These laboratories represent a variety of agencies (i.e., Departments of Commerce, Energy, Defense, Transportation, etc.). The mission of the FLC is to add value to the federal agencies, laboratories, and their partners to accomplish the rapid integration of research and development resources within the mainstream of the U.S. economy

6 20 August 20145 Benefits for State and Local Economic Development 1.Economic development agency efforts benefit by partnering with Federal labs. 2.From education to health to crimefighting and many others, may result in job creation, better products, improved quality of life, and a more positive future for citizens. Benefits to the Government 1.Mission-oriented R&D, leverages dollars when academic or industrial researchers provide needed expertise on collaborative efforts 2.When technology moves out of the laboratories and is put to new uses, the return on R&D investment is improved 3.Speeds the movement of technology to the field 4.Revenue resulting from royalty payments to the Federal laboratory and researchers 5.Strengthens the economy – new products, services

8 Girl Scout STEM Fair at Princeton Plasma Physics Lab Fourth and fifth graders try their hands at a cryogenics experiment The WAGS (We Are Girl Scouts) Robotics team from the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District in New Jersey shows off their robot 20 August 20147 Some 240 Girl Scouts got plenty of hands-on activities and encouragement through this STEM Fair.
