Classroom Management Make name tags What is classroom management? What do you associate with the expression classroom management? Make groups and discuss

Screaming How many of you talked about yelling at the students or giving them detention? Activity: in groups discuss your experiences in the classroom as a student. Think about the classes that ran well.  What's the difference between the classes that ran well and the classes that were utter chaos?

Aren't we friends? No you aren't friends with your students. Even if you are friends with them, remember how you treated your friends at their age. You're their teacher not their friend.

Classroom Environment What does your ideal classroom look like?  Who is the spotlight on, the student or the teacher?  What are your students doing?  How are the desks arranged?  What resources are you using?  How do you call on a student in the class?  Anything else you'd like to add to the ideal classroom?

Who is the spotlight on the most? The student, the teacher or equal parts? – Justify your answer.

What are your students doing? Questions to ponder: Are they doing group work or individual? How are you teaching vocabulary? Why are we talking about lesson planning in a classroom management workshop?

How are the desks arranged? Every class you go into will be in rows and columns. What do you think about that layout?

What resources are you using? Setting the scene: You arrive at your elementary school; you have a textbook, a flash program for the textbook, a TV with cables to hook up a laptop and a home room teacher. Pretty sweet actually. But... why am I talking about resources in a classroom management workshop?

The home room teacher Setting the scene; In all your classes you will have a teacher with you At middle school their English should be pretty boss. At the elementary schools their English level varies, but usually it doesn't exist. Can you think of any issues that this situation may cause you? How can you make it work for you?

How do you call on a student in the class? Setting the scene: I teach at five schools. That's a different school every day. Each week I teach around about 250 students and that isn't including the students that I teach at middle school, I don't count them because I teach sporadically there. If I added them then it would jump up to 500 or more. So how do I call on them in class?

Final question to ponder In Reservoir Dogs Mr Pink comes out on top. Why?

And remember
