2 The school population The survey presented here involved a number 548 students distributed 149 students of Istituto Comprensivo “Porcu Satta” from Quartu S. Elena 73 students of Scuola Secondaria di primo grado “A. Rosas” from Quartu S. Elena 55 students of I.C. Montemilius 3 from Charvensod (AO) 208 students of I.C. “Tiepolo” from Pagnacco (UD) 63 students of I.C. “Gabelli – Moscati” (FG) This has enabled us to obtain a fairly realistic on the sport. The age range is between 1996 and 2002.

5 The majority of the 177 students were born in 2000. Information about students’ height and weight.

6 We asked the students some information about their families such as parents’ education level, number of family members, sports or physical activities eventually practiced by parents, brothers or sisters

7 The chart shows that in 7 cases students’ fathers do not have any school qualification; 29 have primary school qualification; 199 have middle school qualification; 119 have high school diploma; 97 have a professional degree and 59 have a university degree.

8 The chart shows that in 7 case students’ mothers do not have any school qualification; 30 have primary school qualification; 161 have middle school qualification; 134 have high school diploma; 90 have a professional diploma and 61 have a university degree.

11 Family composition The chart shows that 183 families have only one child; 238 have two chidren; 51 have three; 16 have four; 5 have five and 2 families have six children.

12 Which sport do your brothers or sisters play? Brothers : The majority said football, basketball, swimming, volleyball and skiing. Sisters: The majority said swimming, dance, basketball, athletics, gymnastics, skiing

17 Do you practice physical education at school? Almost all students partecipate to the phisical education class at school; only 29 students of 548 are exempted

18 Do you always participate in the physical education class? 520 students of 548 practice phisical education regularly; only 28 students practice phisical education sporadically

19 Do you think physical education is equal to other subjects in importance? 540 students of 548 say physical education has the same importance as other subjects

It applies for admission to the exam I have fun It gives a higher average score I learn a lot of things It is useful to socialize with other people It helps me to understand my limits It is one hour where I can relax Reduces the risk of becoming overweight It is important for health It helps us stay fit If I do not do sport at school, my parents do not let me do it outside

21 Do you do sport in extra curricular time at school? The reason why the percentuage of positive answers to this question is relatively low is because a lot of students of the first year unfortunatly at that time had not received adequate information about the activities run by the school.

22 How do you find physical education at school? 443 of the students claim they enjoy phisical educaton time at school, 77 say they find it interesting while the 28 of the sample claim phisical education is boring

23 Do you practice sport at a competitive level? The majority of students did not answer to this question; 222 of the students claim to practice sport at a competitive level while 226 claim not to practice sport at a competitive level

25 How often do you practice sport? 48 of 548 children are involved in sports at least once a week, twice a week 60; 428 three times a week, every 12 days

26 How old were you when you started doing sport? 44%of the samlpe claim to start doing sport at the age of 4 year-old; 30% at the age of 3 year-old; 12% at the age of 5 year-old.

27 Have you ever change sport? 548 answered ( 238 YES and 194 NO ); 116 did not answer

28 Who suggested you to start doing sport? For 266 students, parents influenced them to start doing sport; 60 said that friends convinced them to do sport; 94 decided by themself; 8 by relatives and 18 by doctors.

30 Who bring you to sport? 248 students are accomanied by their parents; 71 said they go alone; 70 are accompanied by their parents’ friends.

31 Where do you practice sport? Students normally prefer to do sport within organized and well equipped places such as swimming pools, gymnsaium etc..

32 How do you get to the place where you practice sport? Mostly by car, on foot or by bus.

33 In case you stopped doing sport, which was the reason? Economical reason I did not have enough time to study I did not likeI could not finish homework I did not like trainerI got sick very easly Sport society was not well organized I got tired and could not study Phisical problems

34 In the last five questions, the students were asked to describe any situation experienced while doing sport that made them feel insicure and unsafe and how they eventally reacted. 1° question : I am afraid of the Swedish Framework and the Leapfrog; I am afraid when I am afraid when I am doing exercises running back; I am afraid to swim 2° question : I have block; I am afraid, agitated, insicure. 3° question: I feel ashamed, I would like to hide myself, I cry. 4° question: Every activity where I need to compete with my friends, play baseball 5° question : I try to pluck up courage
